Israel Experience/Jewish Travel Scholarship Program

The North Louisiana Jewish Federation is pleased to offer a Scholarship Program designed to promote participation in Israel programs and other organized Jewish travel experiences, which have been proven to support Jewish identity and continuity. The scholarships are made available through the generosity of several funds, including the Gilbert Fund and the Young Leadership Fund.

The NLJF can provide financial assistance each year to one or more eligible students from the local community wishing to travel and study in Israel or with another accredited Jewish travel program. The scholarship is a grant made to the nonprofit organization overseeing the travel program of the student. Family trips to Israel are not eligible.

The student’s family should:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to the Jewish community and to Jewish learning
  • Provide at minimum a nominal contribution toward the funding for camp or Israel program
  • Take advantage of as many other scholarship opportunities as possible
  • Agree to maintain confidentiality with regard to the application, associated discussion, and award decisions

Please note that all eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • The student should be in high school, ideally having completed the 10th or 11th grade, and participated in high school level (or equivalent) Jewish studies.
  • The student should ideally have a demonstrated financial need for the scholarship, and the student’s family should provide a nominal contribution toward the funding of the trip.
  • The student’s trip should be devoted to study and travel, or a work-study experience.
  • The student will share about their travel experience with peers and community upon their return.

If you wish to donate to this fund so more children can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity, please call 318-868-1200 or email info@jewishnla.org

How to Apply

Once your child is accepted by an approved Israel Youth Program, please complete the online application. Completed applications must be submitted by March 1st. Late applications will be accepted, but once available funds are all awarded, there will be no more scholarships available for that year.

Past awards do not guarantee future awards. Award values change each year with the change of available dollars for scholarships.

Please note that the NLJF makes every effort to provide scholarships to qualified applicants but reserves the right to decline any application and has no obligation to and cannot award scholarships in excess of available funds committed for this purpose.
